David Rutley MP welcomed sixth form students from Poynton High School to Parliament on 7th January.
The history students had travelled to Westminster to discover more about how Parliament works. The Macclesfield MP spent time explaining some of the traditions of the House of Commons and discussed his daily life as an MP. David also took questions from the sixth formers about the issues that matter most to them.
As well as meeting David, the pupils took part in a workshop organised by Parliament’s Education Department and sat in the Chamber for a lively Home Office Parliamentary Questions session.
Following the visit, David said, “It was a pleasure to welcome Poynton High School to Parliament. I hope the students have gained a good understanding of Parliamentary procedures and had some of their concerns addressed. I would encourage other local schools to take the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament.”
